A child’s occupation is to play, learn, gain independence with their self-care activities, socialize appropriately with peers, be successful in school, self-regulate and have healthy self-esteem. Utilizing play therapy, our pediatric occupational therapists work to improve fine motor, gross motor, visual perceptual skills, emotional regulation, and more!

Back in the Saddle
A casual program created for those ladies who have long since been on a horse, but would love to get back in the saddle again for an afternoon of fun and laughs, snacks, and an hour of reminiscing about those good old days. Bring a friend, as we are able to trail ride in teams of 2 riders. Dates to be determined upon interest.

Hippotherapy
Hippotherapy uses equine-oriented activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the well-being of people with disabilities. The benefits of equine assisted activities are often far-reaching and evident in many areas:
Physically, the horse’s movement has a dynamic effect on the rider’s body. The horse stimulates the rider’s pelvis and trunk in a manner that closely resembles the normal walking gait of a human. This movement can be used to produce specific physical changes in the rider. The benefits to our riders include normalization of tone, improvements in both posture and balance, and increased strength.
Sensorially, the movement of the horse can help with a variety of sensory integration issues. A horse with a smooth gait and consistent pace can provide needed input to help a rider establish both rhythm and balance. A horse with more movement in its gait may be able to provide rider stimulation to help organize and integrate sensory input. Movement exploration while on the horse can help to improve a rider’s overall body awareness.

Fowl Play
Meet our flock! Our kids incubated eggs and hatched our first flock in 2022. Since then we have continued to grow our flock here at Wind’s Home. Children learned responsibilities such as feeding, and watering, cleaning and general animal care. Body control and impulse control are learned as we played with our newborn chicks and watched them grow! Our Chickie Tiki hut houses our flock of chickens and ducks. Children work on fine and gross motor skills, self regulation, impulse control, executive functions, and communication skills when working with the speech and occupational therapists. Our diverse flock produces rainbow eggs: pink, green and blue! The kids are learning various life skills with our chickens! We have made fried eggs, baked cookies, and are selling fresh eggs money and job skills! Come to the farm and see our flock!
